Watering the allotment
I only water plants that look as if they might die - it's the 'tough love' school of vegetable growing!<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3733&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />

Horseflies
I hate horseflies. I cannot see why they've been put on this earth, or any possible benefit they have. <img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3722&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />

The birch sawfly
[The children] were amazed when I told them that instead of a moth, the larva would turn into a sawfly the size of a hornet...<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3711&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />

The strange case of the wilting wisteria
First the leaves looked a bit droopy and exhausted, then they turned crispy and finally fell off, leaving the plant naked and neglected...<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3698&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />

Invasion of the golden hop
When I first planted a golden hop against my arch some 15 years ago it was a well-behaved youngster...<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3679&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />

Growing strawberries
Despite the dry conditions, my strawberries have been fantastic this year. I've got two beds with one variety growing in each - 'Florence' and 'Honeyoe'.<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3657&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />

Cuckoo
I'm still recovering from a recent night spent under canvas, which was particularly notable for a visit from our local cuckoo.<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3618&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />

Snakes in the grass
I've dredged up from the back of my mind a statistic - something like 1 in 25 UK gardens with a pond will have a grass snake in it. <img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3599&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />

Sir Joseph Banks
Friday 19th June 2009 was the 189th anniversary of the death of one of the most influential people of the 18th century [...] Sir Joseph Banks.<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3554&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />

Dogs in the garden
Do dogs and gardening mix? I'd have to say yes, despite the state of my lawn! <img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=blog.gardenersworld.com&blog=3888125&post=3499&subd=bbcgardenersworld&ref=&feed=1" />
